The summer of 2020 Maci was working at the Public Defender’s Office and also at Bantam & Biddy, a local restaurant. Avery had recently moved to Fernandina Beach and was about to apply for a job at Bantam & Biddy. Maci remembers Avery walking in asking for an application and immediately thinking he was cute. Avery remembers seeing Maci for the first time as she was getting out of her car and walking into the building. He remembers thinking how she looked like a really nice girl and wanted to talk to her. Then one July afternoon Avery asked Maci out on a date. Maci was thrilled and went home to find her Mom to tell her all about her crush at work and how he asked her out on a date that day. The world was a little shut down at this time and Maci and Avery created their own. One date turned into another, and July turned into August. Maci was patiently waiting for Avery to ask her to be his girlfriend. Avery thought since they had been together pretty much everyday and when they weren’t they were texting that they were already dating. Then one evening in the car when Avery answered a phone call in front of Maci and said that he was with his girlfriend she froze. She stared at him until he hung up and then simply said “I’m not your girlfriend”. “You’re not?” Avery replied. “No” said Maci, “you never asked me to be your girlfriend.” “I have to ask you?” asked Avery. To which Maci replied “yes”. Maci said yes to being Avery’s girlfriend on August 16th and 6 weeks later Avery told Maci he loved her. “No you don’t” responded Maci. “Yes I do!” responded Avery. “Avery, you don’t know me, you can’t love someone you don’t know.” stated Maci. “Well then, I love what I do know” replied Avery. They said that to each other for a while, “I love what I know about you”… and then “what I know about” simply drifted away and the three words remained. I love you. Now Maci and Avery get to share their love with all of you on March 8th and they simply cannot wait!
